Officials;

IAHL, ION Adult Hockey League New Rules:

New 2021 Rulebook has been posted on the SE website. (A copy is also attached). Here are some highlights of our rules based on recent questions:

  • There is NO overtime in the regular season.  Only in the playoffs.  Tied games will be recorded as a tie and each team will receive a point in the standings.
  • The 10 point Mercy Rule is only activated if the losing team requests to terminate the game.  Otherwise, the slaughter is allowed to continue until the losing team captain submits
  • Teams MUST Check in with the scorekeeper before the game starts
  • If both teams are short players, games are allowed to proceed 4 vs 4 or 3 vs 3 with runtime clock so long as both Captains agree to play in that format.  The goal is to get the games in for the season with the ice that we have available.  If no agreement can be reached, the game will be a forfeit and will not be rescheduled.
  • Scorekeeper Shortage Rule:  If a scorekeeper is NOT available, the Home team is obligated to provide one (clock and scoresheet)
  • On-Ice Official Shortage Rule:  Based on Rule 501d, each team will select one player to officiate the game.  The two selected players will do the best they can to officiate the game in the absence of available certified officials.
Front Desk, please print the score sheets and have it ready for the scorekeepers

Scorekeepers, please turn the scoresheet into the front desk when finished.  Please remember that you are there to do the following:
  • Run the score clock (There is a cheat sheet at each score table
  • Keep the score sheet (you will pick that up at the front desk.  If the pre-printed ones are not available, use the USA Hockey Official Score Sheets located in the back of the top drawer of the Black Filing cabinet at the front desk)
  • If you can handle the first two tasks, please try to provide some music during the pauses in play.  If the game is chippy, play some Enya
  • try your best to record the shots on goal.
  • Scorekeepers can find more resources at https://ionitchockey. sportngin.com/page/show/ 6719423-scorekeepers

Captains
  • Please check in with the scorekeeper to ensure accountability and correct jersey numbers
  • Maintain control of your players (if they cannot maintain their composure, you need to bench them or remove them from the game before the officials do and it costs them dearly)
  • Bring your own warmup pucks (sent in an earlier email)
  • Bar staff is always limited for the late games so please check in with the Bar when you arrive to let them know if you will be eating and drinking after the game.  If you do not check in with them, they will assume you are not sticking around.

NO FIGHTING!!!!  All involved will get suspended, so don't do it.  Be respectful to both on and off-ice Officials.  There was a shortage of these folks to begin with, but disrespecting them doesn't encourage them to come back.
