NOVA COOL CATS RETURN FROM SUCCESSFUL TOURNEY IN BOSTON
With a police escort to guide us, the NOVA Cool Cats attended the U.S.A. Hockey Disability Festival in Massachusetts this past weekend. After being rear ended by an SUV, the Cool Cats bus left DC on Thursday morning for the long but enjoyable bus ride to Boston. The kids were amazing, watching movies and hanging out. With our pals from the Montgomery Cheetahs joining us, the bus trip was a time to make new friends and talk with old friends.
Our first game was on Friday against our old foes the Washington Ice Dogs. A good game saw lots of goals from Johnny and Scott, and it is always good to play with the Ice Dogs. On Saturday, we played the team from Connecticut, whose flashing pin was a hit with all of our team. All played well, and we were joined by Emma B who had flown up the day before with her family. The afternoon involved a trip to downtown Boston where some went to the aquarium, while others saw the outside of Fenway Park. Saturday night, we huddled around the Internet to listen to the Caps beat the Panthers and make the play offs.
Sunday morning was an eventful day as we had 20 minutes to dress the kids for a 7:30 am game against the Long Island Blues. And what a game it was with a number of penalty shots which saw Gordon, Sam C and Emma B all score. And oh yes!! Scott and Will also hit the net. Zack was a stellar goalie throughout the tournament, making daring save after daring save.
After a long trip home, we made it back to Arlington with a stop to take pictures of the team in their cool new sweatsuits. The tournament was a fantastic success which could never have taken place without Bob, Joyce and most especially Randy. If you did not go this year, go next year which it is in Buffalo, NY. You will not regret it - and if you are lucky, Amanda will agree to have a photo taken of her driving the bus :)
