2011 USA Hockey National Disabled Festival to Take Place April 1-3 in Blaine, Minn.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The seventh annual USA Hockey National Disabled Festival will take place April 1-3, 2011, in Blaine, Minn., it was announced today. The festival, to be held at the Schwan Super Rink, will encompass all four disciplines of disabled hockey, including deaf/hard of hearing hockey, special hockey, sled hockey and standing/amputee hockey.

This year's event, which took place April 8-11 in Laurel, Md., brought together a total of 50 teams and nearly 800 players from 20 states across the United States. The 2010 festival hosted youth and adult sled tournaments; special hockey games; an exhibition between U.S. and international amputee all-star teams; and U.S. deaf/hard of hearing athletes competing against local able-bodied teams.

The 2010 festival also featured games with sled hockey players from the USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program. Organized to operate exclusively for United States Military personnel wounded in defense of their country, the program's mission is to organize and administer an ice hockey program that provides a recreational, therapeutic experience and education to its participants.

Also among this year's highlights were appearances by the Stanley Cup; Duff Goldman, star of the Food Network's "Ace of Cakes," who designed, produced and delivered a custom-made cake; and members of the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team that won the gold medal at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C., last month.

NOTES: Goldman's appearance will be featured on an upcoming episode of "Ace of Cakes." Broadcast details will be announced in the future ... Features, photos and links from the 2010 USA Hockey National Disabled Festival can be found here... The Potomac Valley Hockey Association, an affiliate of USA Hockey, in conjunction with USA Hockey's Disabled Hockey Section, served as host for the 2010 USA Hockey National Disabled Festival ...The NHL's "Hockey is for Everyone" initiative donated auction items to the festival. 2011 Special Hockey International
TOURNAMENT DATES
We would host the tournament on the weekend of April 29, April 30, and May 1, 2011 (Friday to Sunday). This date will allow separation from the USA Hockey Disabled Festival, which is usually held during the first weekend in April. It will also avoid Easter weekend, which is April 24. We feel that this date will give special hockey teams an opportunity to participate in both the Disabled Festival and the SHI Tournament.
II. LOCATION
The SHI Tournament would take place at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, Massachusetts. The New England Sports Center is a five-rink facility, located in the western suburbs of Boston. It features five full-size ice surfaces, 30 spacious team rooms, a large family oriented atrium overlooking the five surfaces, a full service restaurant, pro shop, snack bar, meeting space, and an entertainment center in a 195,000 square foot facility. The Feature Rink will be utilized for the opening ceremonies and the coach’s game, and seats 1,800 spectators. There is also room for additional spectators in the atrium which overlooks the ice surfaces.
The New England Sports Center has committed to giving us exclusive access to the facility during the tournament. We will be able to condense playing times because all five rinks will be available. In addition, the facility features a spacious atrium on the second floor, overlooking the ice surfaces, which is ideal for hosting the Saturday night Awards Banquet. This complex was used for the USA Hockey Disabled Festival in 2008.

Good afternoon to all;
We here in Rochester are in the planning stages of putting together a year end tournament over the weekend of April 13-14-15.  Our hope is that there are 12-14 teams who would be interested in joining us.   Our families and players still wanted to have or attend a year end tournament so we are working towards this end.
We are reaching out to you to see if there is enough interest and if you would be willing to travel to Rochester to participate.    Every team would be guaranteed of 3 games during the Saturday and Sunday dates.   We will conduct this at the multi-pad complex here in Rochester.
As some of you are aware we normally have a much smaller tournament in February, but due to ice availability we cannot do that this year.  Knowing also that the year-end SHI Festival is in England and that the USA Festival for the Disabled is in Dallas, we will not be able to travel to either because of distance and finance.    Thinking that other teams may be experiencing similar issues, our organization thought that others may have the same issues.
I know that in speaking with some of the teams that they will have players and or a majority their program attending one of the above tournaments. If this is the case and you have other players/families who can't this maybe another option for them as we will welcome them also.
Can you please let me know if this is of interest and you would possibly attend.
Thank you and we look forward to your response.
