Mission Statement. Special Hockey Northern Virginia exists for the enrichment of the athlete with a developmental disability. In addition to physical hockey skills, the program emphasizes the development of desirable individuals.

TOURNAMENT DATES
We would host the tournament on the weekend of April 29, April 30, and May 1, 2011 (Friday to Sunday). This date will allow separation from the USA Hockey Disabled Festival, which is usually held during the first weekend in April. It will also avoid Easter weekend, which is April 24. We feel that this date will give special hockey teams an opportunity to participate in both the Disabled Festival and the SHI Tournament.
II. LOCATION
The SHI Tournament would take place at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, Massachusetts. The New England Sports Center is a five-rink facility, located in the western suburbs of Boston. It features five full-size ice surfaces, 30 spacious team rooms, a large family oriented atrium overlooking the five surfaces, a full service restaurant, pro shop, snack bar, meeting space, and an entertainment center in a 195,000 square foot facility. The Feature Rink will be utilized for the opening ceremonies and the coach’s game, and seats 1,800 spectators. There is also room for additional spectators in the atrium which overlooks the ice surfaces.
The New England Sports Center has committed to giving us exclusive access to the facility during the tournament. We will be able to condense playing times because all five rinks will be available. In addition, the facility features a spacious atrium on the second floor, overlooking the ice surfaces, which is ideal for hosting the Saturday night Awards Banquet. This complex was used for the USA Hockey Disabled Festival in 2008.
